Project Description

Help the community in the rural area of Rayong province to improve their water resources and water quality as well as to efficiently manage water supply system in the community. Solar powered water pump system ad storage tanks will be set up in the community to supply adequate water for agricultural purposes and general usage during the dry season.

ฟอร์ด ประเทศไทย เดินหน้าต่อยอดกิจกรรม Ford Global Caring Month โดยร่วมมือกับสมาคมพัฒนาประชากรและชุมชน หรือ PDA ยกทัพอาสาสมัครฟอร์ด จัดสร้างระบบจัดการน้ำพลังงานแสงอาทิตย์ในโครงการ Water Go Green เพื่อส่งมอบให้กับโรงเรียนบ้านคลองน้ำแดง ตำบลหนองไร่ อำเภอปลวกแดง จังหวัดระยอง ซึ่งเป็นชุมชนที่มีสภาพความเป็นอยู่ยากลำบากและขาดแคลนน้ำสะอาด ตั้งอยู่ในบริเวณใกล้เคียงกับโรงงานฟอร์ด ไทยแลนด์ แมนูแฟคเจอริ่ง (เอฟทีเอ็ม)

Actual Outcomes Compared to Expected Outcomes

Besides 1 set of SPWS and 2 water storage tanks, a vegetable garden is being built, and maintenance and repair fund is also allocated at Baan Klong Nam Dang School upon GlobalGiving' s approval of leftover fund using from 2015 projects

  • Preliminary meetings were held on 4 and 26 July, 12 and 28 September by PDA and Ford team, discussed project rationale, objective, timeline and implementation process.

  • Field survey and feasibility study were conducted in mid August. The team worked with Mr Banjong Kanakasai, District Chief of Pluak Dang District to identify Baan Klong Nam Dang School, Nong Rai Subdistrict, Pluak Dang District, Rayong Province as the project location.
  • Networking with communities was carried out during August toSeptember 2016, and project announcement news release was latersent to education media, education Facebook pages and online media in Thailand.
  • Site for vegetable gardening, water pump system and two water storage tanks construction were selected on 2 September.
  • Water storage tanks construction team started working at Baan Klong Nam Dang School on 15 September. Equipment and facilities of solar powered water pump system being arranged on 15-20 September.
  • Ford volunteer application was closed in September 2016, project activity day logistics preparation was completed and itinerary was created.
  • Ford volunteer helped building solar system and water storage tanks, with donation ceremony to the community on 29 September 2016
  • The overall goal of the project was fulfilled:
  1. Donate 1 set of solar powered water pump system and 2 water storage tanks to community in Rayong
  2. 60 volunteers participating in "Water Go Green system" building activity

Feedback from the Community

The project promotes a sense of place and connection through community involvement. The solar system built at school provides learning opportunities for students and villagers. When they decide to learn more or take action to improve their environment, they reach out to teachers, donors, volunteers, and local facilities to help bring the community together to understand and address environmental issues impacting their neighborhood.

Not only does the project offer opportunities for experiential learning outside of the classroom, it also enables students to make connections and apply their learning in the real world. The project helps learners see the interconnectedness of social, ecological, economic, environmental issues.

The project provides sufficient water supply for local communities and helps students build knowledge and skills necessary to address environmental issues, as well as ways they can take action to keep environment healthy and sustainable for the future.
